Why I won't be buying an iPad (anytime soon)
There are a few reasons. Currently, I don't need one. With all the Tweets this weekend from all of you who plunked down your $$499, I do have #iPadenvy. I'm sure that the awesome factor of the iPad is definitely worth the price. Yes, I do plan on visiting the Apple store soon to check it out in person. However, for the time being, I will defer my purchase. I have an iPhone 3GS and a 2 year old MacBook Pro, among my plethora of technology. (Both of which are the coolest devices I've ever owned. And, yes I've owned a lot of gadgets)
I have a had a few clients ask my about the viability of the iPad. As with any technology recommendations, I always defer to its intended use. I personally, carry my iPhone and a MSI Netbook. I don't read e-Books or watch video on a regular basis, so the iPad wouldn't serve a direct need for me.
My wife (@stephhmoonphoto)and I were discussing the iPad over the weekend. She is a photographer, and I think the iPad would be an awesome device for showing her portfolio to her clients. (The cool factor would be off the charts) I think the most traction for the business use of the iPad would come from universities for digital textbooks, doctors for electronic medical records (EMR) , real estate agents or any other similar line of business.
Yes, I will be actively trying to find a business excuse need for the iPad, but, for now, I will hold off.
PS. Those of you that employ heavy use of Flash on your websites may want to rethink things.
